When using topical meds with gas-permeable lenses, the drug should reach the eye tissue without being absorbed or blocked by the lens. Administering the drops before inserting the lenses allows the medication to spread over the tear film and cornea directly, achieving better therapeutic contact. Waiting about 15–20 minutes before reapplying or reinserting the lens gives the drug time to act and reduces the chance that the lens will trap or dilute the medication, which can lower efficacy and cause blurred vision. If multiple drops are prescribed, space them a few minutes apart to prevent washout. Avoid putting drops into the lens case, and do not apply drops while the lens is in place unless the clinician specifically directs you to.
